Blackjack Basics – Part 1

by Agustin on Mar.08, 2010, under Blackjack

The main premise of the card game is to be given cards adding up to twenty one. Every twenty-one player is handed 2 cards. When a player is handed a 9 or lower value card and an Ace they have been given a soft hand. When the gambler is dealt no Ace cards it is called as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to every player at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, every player is given the opportunity to make one of six choices:

Requesting another card (Hit): When a player says hit me the dealer will give him another card, if the adding of that card causes the total greater than twenty one the player will have busted and that’s the end of the game, if the card makes the total to twenty-one the blackjack player will be the winner and if the value of the hand has not yet achieved twenty one they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you’ve been given: If a player is happy with the hand they’ll hold. As soon as this has happened the croupier will show his/her hand and the blackjack player who has gotten twenty one or the nearest to 21 will acquire a win.

Doubling Down: A black jack player may request to double down which doubles the wager they have laid. As soon as you’ve taken this procedure you can only be given 1 more card. The specifics of doubling down are normally specified by the table or betting house game rules so prior to competing make certain you’re comfortable with the casino rules. If you are competing at an online betting house this is normally quite simple.
